Fourth Annual Parol Festival
The Arts Foundation celebrated our Fourth Parol Festival and Competition on Saturday, December 6. The annual event was held at the Mikolajcik Center’s Multi-Purpose Room.
The event started with a short parade around the site, followed by a short program highlighting the importance of building a parol (Christmas Lantern) in Filipino Culture. There was also a dance program, and then a nice dinner of authentic Filipino Food.
While all of this was going on, our judges reviewed the Parol Entries and debated over which ones should receive first, second and third. This was a very tough decision, but ultimately, the winners for this year’s event were the following:
- First Prize: Jessica Lacaba for her stunning creation, “Pistachio.”
- Second Prize: Cynthia Novero for the intricate marine-themed piece, “Oysters and Mussels.”
- Third Prize: Roman Saranghilo for the beautifully crafted “Succulent.”
Four other artists received Honorable Mentions: “Rapunzel” by Dyna Le; “Magnolia” byLita Bautista; “Starry” byLayla Robbins; and “Christmas Wishes” by Jemma Robbins.
We look forward to building our annual Festival in the future, working with our sponsors: Napa County, FilAm Association of American Canyon, City of American Canyon, and Friendors.
