Shakespeare is coming to American Canyon!
ACAF is partnering with Vallejo Shakespeare in the Park to bring Richard the Third to American Canyon on August 8th. The performance is 2 1/2 hours, from 4 – 6:30 pm. This open-air theater production is free to the public and will be held at Independence Park (where we hold the Fourth of July Concert).
Richard the Third is loosely based on the life of the real King Richard III of England. The play presents Richard’s rise to power, based on charm, deceit and murder, and then his fall from power and defeat.
Vallejo Shakespeare in the Park has been presenting Shakespeare’s plays throughout the North Bay area for years. Its aim is to provide an inspiring and educational live theater experience for our audience through intensive preparation and high quality performance, and broaden horizons and enrich the lives of local residents through a free classical outdoor theater performance. Their approach is to present a “bare-bones” production, concentrating on the actor’s performances and honest storytelling, with minimal set and modern dress.
We are fortunate to add American Canyon as one of their newest sites. Although the performance is free, there will be a limited amount of food available for sale. If there is a good turnout, we will work to bring more performances next year and beyond.
