Workshops for our 2025 Parol Festival
The Festival and Competition is not until December 6, but our workshops will start in September and wrap up in November.
All three workshops will be held in Room 5 of the Mikolajcik Center (formerly the Napa Junction Community Center) at 300 Napa Junction Road. The workshops all start at 10am and end at noon. The first workshop is Saturday, September 27, followed by one on October 25, and the last one on November 29.
Event organizer, Luchi Marte, will be the instructor for the workshops. They are all free to attend, and include the basic supplies needed to build your own Parol. If you want to enter in the competition, you will most likely need to invest in more elaborate elements and decorations.
The actual competition and festival will be held Saturday, December 6, from 6-7:30pm at the Multi-purpose room of the Mikolajcik Center (formerly the Napa Junction Community Center) at 300 Napa Junction Road, in American Canyon. The Festival is free and open to the public.
Parols are a Philippine Cultural Asset–beautifully crafted lanterns displayed during the Christmas season. Traditionally made from bamboo and colorful paper, it can also be made out of plastics or metals. They are illuminated with candles or (more safely) battery-powered lights. For more information, including history and construction/design, go to the Wikipedia article.
Our annual festival is sponsored by the FilAm Club of American Canyon and Napa County Arts & Culture Commission, which provided grant funds for this event. Other local businesses and individuals contribute towards the event to cover the cost of awards and refreshments. If you would like to contribute, please go to our Sponsorship page here.
